The American Strategy: waste millions worth of bombs blowing up everything and hope you get a couple of bad guys. Don't pay attention to the hundreds of innocent bystanders you slaughter.
Let's face it, if these wars were about technological superiority, we'd have won by now.
Total civilian deaths from U.S. violence in Iraq: 102,013-111,503. Source: US military intelligence documents, but it can also be found through the UN. (Afghanistan is not any better). As you can see, I get my news from the actual sources, and not from the distorted fantasies in Bill O' Reilly's psychopathic head as you probably do.
Over a hundred thousand is in no way "little, if possible no, civilian casualties." It's over one hundred thousand people dead and over one hundred thousand families in grief. As a christian and therefore a pacifist this makes me upset.
war is in the fate of the worlds socitey, it is in mans subconcious, if some1 has something, the other is destined to want it more...Life is a battlefield to keep on living...
As a christian and a AMMO troop (means I build the bombs in the picture) I had no problem contributing to the death count in Iraq and Afghanistan, I would rather glass their yard instead of fight in mine. I am glad you can read war reports and say what you want, I will continue to build bombs and maintain missiles.
Your blood is worth more than theirs, that's why I keep fighting the war on terror.
@The Noir Hero: I guess we have different readings of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Although it seems pretty clear to me.
And they don't want my blood, (nor is it worth more than theirs, but that's beside the point). Before the war your average Iraqi in the street had no special dislike of Americans. A small religious subgroup (Al-Qaeda) was dissatisfied with the political situation in the region and blamed America, true. Through governmental neglect and ineptitude they were able to commit an egregious act of terror (I think the claim that the government was somehow involved is nonsense), but this should not have been dealt with like it was.
There was no reason for so many deaths in Iraq, and even though I would agree some US operations in Afghanistan were necessary, the full scale invasion we mounted was both foolish and has proved to be cumbersome--as the last ten years have shown.
There is no war on terror; it is a phantom. We conduct operations like those you work on and sometimes kill the actual bad guys (I was just as happy as anyone else when Bid Laden was killed), but also harm people who are no danger to us and haven't harmed us either. The people we consider "enemy combatants" are not soldiers, and they have no unified front; some of them are merely fighting for their homeland.
You can use your (probably limited) understanding of physics to build bombs. But I'd rather use mine researching thermodynamic control for alternate energy systems.
@ A Dog If you truly feel there is no war on terror, please explain to me what happened to the three airmen in Germany on a bus to the airport. Or what about the stories you don't read about, where the "bad guys" strap bombs to women, children and handicap individuals and send them to our gates while they are a safe distance away holding the bomb's trigger? You are right, most of these people don't hate the US, but the war on terror doesn't just apply to them attacking us. We have spent years teaching these people to better themselves, trained them to defend theirselves, and have bleed with them so they know their lives are worth something.
You say there is no unified front, your right. If they fought wearing uniforms... this war would have ended back in 02 or maybe even 01. These phantoms can't hide forever, Bin Laden is a prime example of that, but to say our show of force was unnecessary is unfounded. If you could imagine a single day in Iraq or Afghanistan without the need for a gun slung across your chest, a helmet on your head, layer after layer of gear and body armor that doesn't breathe very well in the heat of the desert... you can imagine why so many troops are sent out there. We rotate all those troops so we have the best force to fight these freedom hating individuals. Because that is what they are, a bunch of small groups attacking us and themselves to further their cause. I feel bad for all the people that get injured in our attacks, but did you read about all the lives we have saved? I spent time helping in the clinic in Iraq, most of the people getting help were Iraqis. Men, women and children that were shot, burned, partially blown up and filed with shrapnel from "phantom" bombs. If these terrorist were fighting for their homeland, why blow up an entire block filled with their families and friends to kill a few Americans?
I would really love to see you apply your greater understanding of things in the Middle East to find an end to all this unrest. I would love to raise my son in a world where I help build the future rather than bombs to get dropped from our planes. I don't mean to be sarcastic, but until you have been over there, enjoyed the weather, been shot at, had rockets and mortors fired at you, I can't really say you have much worth listening to.
For one, there was no peace there before the war and there will be no peace there after the war. Also, you say 100k people died. Can you prove that it was all by Americans and American bombs. More people die in a day by car bombs and Iraqi gunfire than a B-52 dropping bombs. We have precision guidance systems for those bombs. Bombs that drop within 10 feet of their target.
Also, being a Christian should have no argument in this matter. Should we be killing people, no. However, trying to use the excuses of your teaching to win an argument is a no-no. If you were a real Christian you would not be using that in a discussion like this. Also in the bible it tells you to support and pray for your leaders and to support and pray for your solders. They have to witness and experience things that you never will.
Overall, we use fewer bombs then we did in the past to get our targets. And saying that we are the only reason there are killings over there is naive. No matter if they hate us or love us.
Why did they erase my other comments? I didn't say anything bad about anyone, only gave rebuttal to the claims made in comments after me. The FP admins are being douches if they're erasing comments just because they don't agree with them.
