Actually the Bible was Breathed and Inspired by God and put on paper by man. Nowhere in the Bible does it refer that the "Earth was flat". That was man's concept and wasn't written into the Bible due to the Bible being God's Word. If you want, please read the Bible and see if you can find any reference to a flat Earth. I know you can't but you may be able to learn about God and see how much He loves you and wants you to know Him.
Well well. Is there any proof that God exists at all? Is there any proof that the Earth is more 6,000 years old instead of 4 billion? No. In fact, they say that God supposedly created the other stars and planets to show his majesty or something like that. If thats so, then why did they discover bacterial life forms on Mars? That means at one point, Mars supported life, and may even have had advanced life, long ago.
Actually, I just googled that information and the "bacterial life" they found is being debated. The only reference I could find was concerning a meteor from Mars found in the antarctic. It had some possible indications that bacteria could have existed, but they aren't sure if it was from contamination from the Earth itself as the same bacteria are found on this planet. They did find fatty deposits, but the shape of those deposits indicated contamination from our environment. So your information is still based on a theory. Being a Christian is a choice that I have made in my life and Yes, I do believe that God exists and that he created all things, including me. For every scientist that says he has proof that God doesn't exist, another shows proof that some superior logic does exist that created life. Even Darwin in his later life declared his "Theory of Evolution" highly implausible due to the complexity of living creatures. He was especially confused about the development of the eye, since evolution tends to lead towards simplification and the eye contradicts all of his theories. Feel free to look into anything that I have said, because I did before I said it. God gave us free will because he wants us to hear everything, discern what we believe, and freely choose to accept him or not. I step out in faith that I don't know everything about my creator, but know that I was created. This world is way to complex to believe it all happened by chance. If evolution is true and we evolved from primates, why are there still primates? If the "base" of our evolution exists and the outcome of that process exists (us), where are the intermediate forms and why do they not exist also? Science is a wonderful thing, but using theories as fact is incorrect until proven, and they have proven nothing. With every "discovery", they have to change their own theoris and timelines. God has never changed and everything in the Bible proves itself again and again. God flooded the Earth, and we find ships and proof of prior sea life existing on top of mountains. Historical documentation of Jesus' existence is annotated even by people who did not write the Bible. You can choose to accept flawed theories or accept those that have not been proven false, again, of your own free will. God does love you and wants you to accept his Son as your Savior and I want the same thing. At the same time, it must be a decision that you make and there is relatively nothing I can do or say that will lead you to do this. I simply tell you what I believe and let you examine your own heart and see what you believe. Notice that nowhere in my opinion do I demean you or insult you or state in any way that you are of lesser value than I am. Please be as considerate for my opinion as I have been for your.
What I find funny Shaun, is that you stated that Joseph was working all based on theory, when you are indeed working on theory as well, because, other than the faith their followers have, we have no indication, or rather no solid proof, that deities do exist. So, lets just chalk it all up to Theory, cause that is what everything boils down to in the end, theory, belief and opinion. ::smile for the camera::
I am a Christian. I believe in evolution. Is this contradictory? Not necessarily. We have evidence that evolution exists. Over the past century, people have gotten taller and stronger. A few hundred years ago, being 5ft tall was an acheovement. Dinosaurs have similar skeletal structures to chickens. But we also have proof of god. It isn't nearly as quantifiable, but it is all the more amazing for it. For example, Helen Keller knew, before anyone on earth had begun to explain it to her, all about god. She said(signed) "why are you telling me this? I already knew that."
Does the fact that Adam and eve were human mean that they looked and acted like us? No. Did God ever do anything to stop evolution? Ever? No. Why should he? I believe that God placed a set of animals on Earth that continually evolved and still evolves.
We have sin because man has free will and is imperfect. Had God made us perfect, we would have no choice to believe and love and that defeats the purpose. The point of faith is believing even if others don't. It isn't faith if you didn't choose to believe. All humans have doubts. If I recall correctly, this includes Jesus. As human beings, we are entitled to our opinion, and we are predisposed to disagree with anyone who thinks differently than us. I believe that no theory or opinion concerning religion is entirely correct, and even the bible itself leaves much to be desired in terms of interpretation. Why? I think it is to force us to find our own way. I think that we need to take proof of multiple theories and combine them.
For example, how can something, scientifically, come from nothing. It is impossible. There must be some higher power at work here.
BUT, we have evolution, abd, as eregebe pointed out, we have plenty of prof for that.
It is a matter of percrprion. If you want them to nullify each other, they can, easily. But they font have to. Try thinking about this. Creationalism vs. Evolution is only one ofe the many god vs. Science debates. Not any more, though.
Please feel free to disagree with me. I can't combine opinions if I only have my own.
"Even Darwin in his later life declared his 'Theory of Evolution' highly implausible due to the complexity of living creatures." - Shaun ok, and his reasons for thinking that have been disproven with evidence that we have found. now, you can look for it yourself, i don't care. i am just saying that saying something like that is irrelevant. also, i am a little rusty on Darwin's quotes, but i don't remember him ever using the word "implausible" to describe evolution.
In the book of Isaiah 40:22 the bible does speak of the earth as spherical so Yes this demotivational poster is retarded because i dont remember a sphere's dimension resembling a compact disc.....
its funny because even if they lack basic geography skills they still believed in loads of ridiculous things, after all they wrote the bible. And yes it is ridiculous. Prove me wrong.
I think people missed the dumbest part of this which is that most people thought the world was flat or at the center of the universe or some other "fact" that is now known not to be true. Bad geography was hardly a creation of the Jews or Christians. And generally Christians were behind the major scientific advances at the point in time when folks figured out the world was round and not at the center of everything. Not because Christians are smarter, just because they were well funded and in power. That doesn't make them dumber either...
Here's something fun to consider and going back to half the point of this poster, the fact that any one believed that the world was flat it a complete myth, no one ever believed that. I think some guy, Tom Servo said that it was flat, but he didn't know what he was talking about. Anyone who'd sailed around the world would have realised the world was anything but.
Anyways because ONCE AGAIN this whole stupid science versus religion thing has started, and that I have gotten into a million times before, I cannot resist just adding that religion is a belief, and evolution is a theory.
But scientists don't mean theory as in 'it might have happened or maybe not', there is a crushing amount of facts to prove evolution exists. For example, killer whales or ocas have just branched off into subspecies http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killer_whale#Types
I dont think a few books written about some halucinagenics is solid fact, considering it has been changed so many times after the time it was written. That being said, outdated and poorly written books dont disprove a higher being either. Though it leaves very little evidence.
btw Shaun, I saw another discussion that you posted in, and you said there was proof of a great flood and that they've found boats and shells on mountains. For the animals/shells etc there is a very easy explenation, its called erosion. Basic geography. In the case of the grand canyon :
"The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in the United States in the state of Arizona." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Canyon
Take a look, its quite interesting. Would explain the animals, before it wore its way so far down the tops of that canyon would have been the banks of the river. The dead animals would have been deposited there.
As for the boat found in the mountains of Ararat, little harder to explain, and maybe it is proof that god and noah exist, but then, they claimed that noah needed pairs of only 40,000 species when there are obviously millions of species.
I quoted this from someone in the article:
"So 36 species of wild cat have evolved in less than 5,000 years? 50+ species of mouse in less than 5,000 years?
Evolution is proved and accepted. The timescales are a bit shorter than Darwin said, but hey, the basic principles are right. I'm impressed - 36 species of wild cat evolve from a common ancestor in less than 5,000 years.
But at least we agree that Tigers, Lions, Leopards all evolved from a common ancestor. I don't think it happened as quickly as you do, but at least we agree on the principles." Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1269165/Noahs-Ark-remains-discovered-mountain-Turkey.html#ixzz153lHj85w
If only 40,000 species of animals were saved, then they would have had to have evolved at an incredible rate to get to the number we know there are today. Soon as how wildcats live in scotland, England and other places where we know our species, it is very hard for an animal to appear out of just no where. Maybe the ship they found was just left there when the mountain was smaller? Mountains are usually cause by the earths crust pushing earth up out into the sky. Maybe the ship was pushed with it.
Anyways, I feel this proves evolution to some extent. And please stop saying it is simplistic, something becoming a complex organism through trial and error over hundreds of millions of years is far from simplistic, as apposed to some powerful deity just PLACING everthing here, ready made. Doesn't that sound simplistic to you?
What kind of idiot with no concept of how genetics works believes "being taller" is a sign of evolution. So you're saying all those short people in Asia are not as advanced as all those tall folks from Europe, huh? Height= evolution apparently for the uneducated.
I notice no one has mentioned that people ever thinking the world was flat is an urban legend created when a book written in the early 19th century instead of being taken as what it was fiction was taken as being as actual belief, it's like someone a hundred years from now picking up a diskworld novel only to think we honestly believed that the world was balanced on the back of a giant turtle flying towards the sun.
What are you people doing?!! FP is NOT a place for serious discussion, no matter how laughingly stupid it is. Now go make a sexual comment on one of the MANY titty posters this site has. It is your penance for being serious
No, the flat earth people were your flat-headed ancestors that couldn't believe in anything that they couldn't see. Seriously makes me wonder why your bloodline isn't extinct yet.

No it wasn't genius, they weren't concerned with that level of geography when the Bible was composed...
ooo ur right, so that was b4 they were even dumb enough to think that

TL/DR
when scientists came up with the round earth theory religious ppl kind of killed them
