at least multicolored pens make it seem exciting.

Try and pay attention while in school as well, it's YOU'RE (as in you are), not YOUR.

I don't understand why people get so pissy about the difference between 'your' and 'you're'. It's the internet not the declaration of independence so I don't think it really matters. People will understand what is being said regardless and if they don't then they need to pay attention in school.

Are you saying that spelling and grammar errors are irrelevant on the internet? Talk about lame excuses! If you're not able to spell properly I guess you shouldn't be able to make fun of anyone else but yourself.

I'm not saying that but in things like facebook status updates and demotivational posters the difference between 'your' and 'you're' doesn't matter that much. If the sentence is unreadable because of spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes then that's fine to complain about but not about something as small as the difference between r and 're. You know what he meant otherwise you wouldn't have corrected him and most people either correct it in their minds so the sentence makes sense (a bit like how if all but the first and last letters of a word are jumbled up people are still able to understand) or don't even really notice nor care about that small mistake. I just think that people who correct things that are for entertainment like these posters are taking it a bit too seriously.

I see your point, still it could be seen as a "bad habit" that if not corrected could spill in other communication mediums and also confuse people that already have difficulty understanding such spelling/grammar mistakes. Plus my first comment was a (lame, I admit it) attempt at a joke about the subject...

Not to be pissy, but a grammatically correct sentence seems to denote a better education and/or a stronger intellect. When people are reading something, it is easier to dismiss something grammatically incorrect as being written by someone with little to no education. Whereas a grammatically correct writing carries more weight.

To be honest with you, I have never seen a demotivational poster where someone mixed up 'your' and 'you're' and thought the person who created it was uneducated. I simply thought that they made a very easy to make mistake and focused on if the poster was funny or not.

As for carrying more weight, perhaps yes if it was something important like an election campaign or something like that but as already stated demotivational posters are just for fun not something that needs to carry weight

Sloppy in practice leads to sloppy in competition or at work; generally where it counts.

@ ga man
while your statement is valid. it is irrelevant here seeing as most of these people most likely dont have jobs where grammar is that important. your/you're reads as the same and most of the time, unless you are a critical bitch, people wont even notice the mistake
