The point is that it IS my property if I bought it. Nobody can tell you that you can't share food that you bought, or your car, but for some reason it is normal to tell you who to share your media with.
That said, I buy my CD's, but if I wanted to give a copy to my friend I should be able to. It is not theft because even if my friend gave me a CD that I liked, I would still buy it because a copy isn't the same as owning it.
They should start arresting people for making knock off clothes, they aren't "real", but those evil people who cannot afford the "real thing" buy them instead of going broke to own the "real thing".
You own a compact disc, not the intellectual rights to a song.
Lets say your a song writer (not the artist that records a song cause they make money touring, merchandising, etc & lots of artists don't write their own stuff) & you write a song thats really good. You make a deal with artist X & you get 5 cents for every cd sold. 2 months go by & you get a royalty check for 5 cents, less taxes of course. So the artist sells 1 cd & that person copies it & distributes it for free & people think thats fair?
The problem with all this is that it was NOT started by Napster or MP3s or the WWW. It was the cassette tape. That was the media that made it easy for people to make copies for & from their friends.
The government is 30 some years behind the curve, as usuall.
@corey - As said above you own the CD not the intellectual property rights. You own your car, you can't reproduce copies of the Ford Pinto (or whatever crap your broke ass drives) and give it to your friends.
Also, most people that pirate stuff from the internet don't purchase it in the first place, they just download whatever they want because this stupid generation thinks they are entitled to whatever they please.
SOPA is a bullsh*t but none of you idiots that steal others material online seem to think that the reason the government tried passing it is because of you. Liberal logic fail as usual.
I think SOPA is great... just means all the servers will move to like russia... where there will be no blocking and the only country stupid enough to follow its rules is.... well America.... :)

It's not your property to just "make a copy of" so stop trying to justify your petty thievery.
